The space feels much like a warm summer’s day. These warmed beds soothe muscles, accelerate metabolism, eliminate toxins from the body and allow for increased circulation while heating your inner core. Great for your body, mind & spirit! Originating in Indonesia, in the last 10 years it has become popular in Japan and Australia with about a thousand gan•ban’s operating. At iwa, we have three gan• ban suites, the first is our main studio to accommodate up to 4 people socially distanced, and a private suites for couples.

How you use it

Dressed in comfortable athletic clothes or a provided jinbei robe, you will lay down directly on the warm rock bed and relax, that’s it! The rock beds emit negative ions and far infrared rays to deeply heat and detoxify the body. It’s a unique concept which is simple, yet very rewarding:  You lay down on rock stone beds for 15-20min. intervals with a 3-5 min. cool down period between each interval.

How does it work?

The rock is heated by steam from the boiling water underneath the floor. It is only when the stone slabs are heated that they emit negative ions and far infrared rays.

What are far infrared rays?

Far infrared rays are waves of energy that are also emitted from the sun but are invisible to the naked eye. Originally from Brazil and now residing in Collingwood with his wife and young son; Celso brings with him the passion of practicing Traditional Chinese Medicine.  Having excellent qualifications he completed his Traditional Chinese Medicine program in Toronto and is a Registered Acupuncturist and Registered Traditional Medicine Practitioner which are designations required to practice both Acupuncture and prescription Chinese herbal remedies.  Along with TCM, he brings to his practice a background and BA in Physiotherapy.  With this knowledge, skill set, and personable qualities he is ready to bring his best to you!

Yoga is an ancient discipline of physical movements designed to inspire mental and spiritual well being. When practised in our warmed Gan•ban volcanic rock studio you get the added benefits of cleansing, pain relief, deeper easier movements, and incredible stress reduction. You will literally feel the warmth melting tension away as you practice yoga on our heated gan•ban beds. Whether you are beginning your wellness journey or continuing your practice, your gan•ban yoga experience will bring a new element of inspiration to this ancient tradition.

Designed to inspire your wellness always, our class schedule offers a variety of indoor and outdoor classes (seasonally), seven days a week. Join iwa for our regular classes at the level that is right for you. Choose from a single class pass, or a 5 class pass. We look forward to sharing this one-of-a kind experience in the heart of the Blue Mountain Village.

Please note yoga is reserved for guests 16 years of age and older only. 

ARRIVING FOR YOUR CLASS

Please arrive at the spa via the Street Side/Retail entrance no more than 15 minutes before your class for check in. We recommend coming dressed for your class in light, layered, athletic clothing that is easy to move in and will allow the heat of the gan•ban to penetrate the body. Please bring your own  water bottle and towel if desired.

You do NOT require a mat.

WHAT TYPES OF CLASSES DO YOU OFFER?

RESTORATIVE – This is our specialty! Our restorative yoga takes place directly on the warm volcanic rock. Treat your body to a luxurious, slow moving, yin style class that will leave you feeling rested and fully restored. All levels welcome.

YOGA ON THE DOCK – Yoga on the Mill Pond Dock Saturdays and Sundays at 8am (July + August only). Start your day with an energizing flow class on the Mill Pond dock overlooking Blue Mountain (located in front of Northwinds, next to Wild Wing- meet on the dock)

DO I NEED TO MAKE A RESERVATION?

Drop-ins are welcome as space permits. Pre-registration is highly recommended for classes in the gan•ban studio as it has a capacity of 8. Book online (click the “Class Schedule” tab) or by phone (705) 293-2492. Please note that we require a credit card to hold all reservations.

WHAT IF I NEED TO CANCEL MY YOGA RESERVATION?

Your yoga reservation can be cancelled up to 12 hours prior to your appointment time at no charge. A cancellation within 12 hours, a 100% charge will be applied to the credit card you reserved with. If you have a class pass, and cancel within 12 hours, a class will be deducted from your pass.
